Upgrade problems

An old chestnut I am afraid.
I have very limited skills.
I am running WordPress in Google Cloud Services (GCS) provided by GCS.Since the update to 4.5.3 I have not been able to upgrade beyond this version.
Using the Bitnami forum I have been told backup, create a new install, restore.
This would be fine if I had the skills to do this, I do not.
The instructions provided would quite clear to someone who understood what was being conveyed, unfortunately not to me.I am sure there is an easy route to resolve this with step by step instructions. Any assistance would be appreciated.
