My “dirt-cheap provider who starve my account of resources”, Dreamhost, shared server, has a memory limit default of *I think* 90MB. It took about 40 minutes of Upgrade (1.12.29) > Internal Server Error > Try Again > Maintenance Mode > sFTP Delete Maintenance… before it finally made it. Probably you’re already running as lean as possible, but wanted to pass this along in case it was useful.

    Hi,

Thanks for the information. 90MB is rather low for a modern hosting account.

I would recommend in the future downloading a fresh version of UpdraftPlus and manually updating via FTP in the future. Your settings and backups will not be lost, and you will save some time not having to repeat the update.

Thanks! That sounds like my solution. Much appreciated. And good to know too that 90MB is low. You’d think that as computing power, including memory, gets cheaper over time, they’d up their memory limits (keep customers happy) but at the same time they’ve developed Managed WordPress products (which are a lot more expensive) so one has to conclude that there’s a squeeze play going on to motivate ‘upgrading’.
