I am after partial paid membership model which means users will be able to subscribe for free (with limited access) for like 30days. After 30days, their subscription level should switch to MembersMembers (no subscription).
However, they should have option to Upgrade to Premium Membership (paid) anytime during or after their initial trial period of 30days.

I am able to subscribe at Free Membership (trial) level and have access to limited content, however, I don’t see any upgrade button while in trial period.

    My setting is as follows:

    I have 4 Levels:

    • Visitors (Not Logged-in)
    • Free Membership (Trial)
    • Premium Membership (Annual Paid)
    • Members(no subscription)

    Two Plans:

    • Free Membership (Trial 30days)
    • Premium Membership (Annual Paid)

    General Options
Stranger Level: Visitor (not logged-in) level

User Registration: Free Membership (Trial) Level

Please can someone assist me with enabling Upgrade option?

    Hi @ghazanfarmir,

Hope you’re doing great today! 🙂

We’re more than happy to assist here. And it sounds like you’ve got everything configured nicely.

The upgrade option would depend on the subscription setup, you’ll want to ensure the subscription you’re attempting to upgrade from isn’t set to “infinite”.

From your description, it sounds like it’s set to a 30-day finite period so that should be no problem.

Could I also check with you on the settings you have at:

Membership > Options > Extras tab

Could you let me know the setting you have for Upgrades period limit?

Whatever value you’ve set there, you’ll need to allow that much time before the upgrade option appears.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi @david,

Yes, the trial period is set to finite with 30 days period.

Renewal period limit is set to 365 Days
It is so because I want users to be able to upgrade anytime while in trial period.

Upgrades period limit is set to 0 Days

Please see screenshot page of logged in user with Free Membership (for simplicity I have trial period set to 1 day) without upgrade button.

    Premium Membership Plan

Please let me know if you need to know anything more?

My User details who registered using Free Membership Trial Subscription is here.

    Hi @ghazanfar,

Thanks for those additional details. Could I ask if you’re able to signup to the Premium subscription?

Do you have the settings configured for that?

You’ll need to ensure there’s a payment gateway activated that would work with that paid subscription. Then you should be able to see a button to pay for it.

Could you have a look and let me know?

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi @david,

I tried signing up for premium membership using sandbox paypal. The process completed successfully and I saw the message that payment was successful. However, when I checked subscription page and members page, i was subscribed to Free Membership instead.

I have my paypal single payment gateway enabled and activated.

Could you please see where is the problem?

    Many thanks

    Hi Ghazanfar,

Thank you for sharing the site link.

I tested it by creating test account on your site and subscribed for premium membership by paying 100 GBP successfully for the membership plan ( See the screenshot ) but it it’s still displaying subscribed to the free membership plan.

Could you please confirm you have set “Use subscription” option to None on the following path as you are using a paid subscription model so it is probably best to set this to “none”?

Admin area -> Membership -> Options -> General Tab -> Use subscription

    Hi

Yes, thats another problem I am facing with this plugin other than no upgrade option.

As per my understanding, I read somewhere in the forum that None is used when the only option available to subscribe is Paid Membership and if we allow partial paid membership we shouldn’t use None.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I changed that option to None anyways, and now it doesn’t even allocate any membership after successful payment.

Kindly advise what is wrong with this configuration? I have already spent too much time on this and don’t want to spend any further.

    Cheers

    Hi @ghazanfar,

Thank you for your patience and cooperation

There can be various reasons of the issue as we have not found the bottleneck of problem so this will certainly take a bit of trial and error to try to figure it out.

Try repairing and verifying Membership tables from the following path.

Admin area -> Options -> Advanced Tab

Yes you are correct, if you are providing free subscription plan along with paid subscription plans then you should select subscription plan in the “Use subscription” option.

You have set Free subscription as indefinite( See this screenshot ) instead you should set it as finite as described by @david in his previous reply.

Set the “Upgrades period limit” to 1 day in the membership settings, drop the Subscription for the member from admin area and resubscribe for free membership. Wait for a day to appear subscription upgrade button.

    Hi,

I believe it will be time saver if you could let me know your way how can I achieve (if possible at all) the membership site as pinned down in my first message above.

Most importantly, the subscription plan hierarchy is something you could help in too?

Looking forward to your set of instructions.

    Thanks

    Hi there Ghazanfar,

Thanks for your patience here! 🙂

The way you have it setup currently should work, what does display on the upgrade page, nothing at all? Or the text with no buttons?

    Kind Regards
    Jack.

    Hi Jack,

I have finally uninstalled your plugin after all these days of no luck..

    Thanks for your help anyways..
    Ghazanfar

    Hi Ghazanfar,

I’m really sorry if you had any trouble getting that upgrade issue sorted. From your description, the bulk of settings definitely sound to be correct though there’s got to be something missing that wouldn’t allow for the upgrade option to show.

If you’d be willing to continue with this and wouldn’t mind sending admin details through, I’ll gladly take a look on site and see what I can find to help.

If so, you can simply send a message through our contact form here:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

Simply select “I have another question”, then in the subject include “ATTN: David” and in the message include a link to this topic along with the details.

    Would that work for you?

    Cheers,
    David
