• Hi.I noticed that it is not possible to upload animated webp images in WordPress.

I think this is a bug. You can convert a gif image or video to webp and upload it in WordPress.

Upload is not possible. Please check and test this.

Alternate sizes (thumbnails) are always created by PHP Image extension (GD or Imagick) as first frame of the animated set, therefore not animated.
The original image should be still not modified and animated.

@fierevere There was no such problem before WordPress 5.8. Webp animated images were also easily uploaded. But after the release of WordPress 5.8, this problem arose. I recommend you test my report.

I suggest you to open a ticket at core trac, instead of raising this issue on support forum. Core bugs and regressions should be reported on trac.

    https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn

Ps: try to reproduce this issue with clean installation, no plugins and default theme
