• I am trying to move my wordpress.com site to a self-hosted ww.wp.xz.cn
site. First, I got to the point of importing to .org the exported site from .com. This fails to install the WordPress importer plugin withe nessage “Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content)”. I’ve tried the suggested solutions on other threads but none work. So I tried to download the plugin and FTP it directly into the plugins subdirectory of wp-content. It is in there OK (along with akismet which was already there) but it does not show on my list of plugins when I select this from the Dashboard. Again, I’ve checked all is OK with the plugin header etc as advised in other threads. I’ve also tried to upload manually other plugins but they don’t appear either. Can anyone help?

Solved the problem. You must install WordPress files in the root directory and not a subdirectory of your site, otherwise you experience all the problems referred to.
