Uploading images/avatars

Hi,

I have created a custom registration form for the users of a client’s website I’m building. However it is a requirement before registrations complete that an image or avatar is chosen.

Are there functions in wordpress which allows for uploading of images/choosing the default wordpress avatars.

If so any resources provided would be greatly appreciated.
