Thank you apljdi for responding.
I had tried uploading “contrast style” theme through the file manager.
The file was uploaded — but like I thought, my dashboard doesn’t recognize the file. It only lists the two original themes.
Any other suggestions?
And what about the permission problem?
(2) uploading a new theme.
I looked for the folder http://choveveitzion.com/wp-content/themes/contrast-style/ but it wasn’t there (404 Not Found error), so I suspect you uploaded the Contrast Style theme to the wrong location.
(1) when you say “update my blog to the most current blog”, I assume you are talking about upgrading WordPress to the current version. If so, what are you doing to get you to the point where the “page access” error occurs? Normally, you should be clicking on the link in the Admin panel where WordPress warns you that your version is out of date, then select Automatic Upgrade.
Using FTP will probably avoid the permissions problem. That is why I suggested it. The permissions you have via FTP and the permissions that the WP software has aren’t the same. Using your web-host’s file management software should also avoid the permissions problem but I’m not sure if you mean the file manager within WP or one provided by your host. If you later you need to be sure to upload unzipped files and make sure there are no spurious ‘wrapper’ directories.
To figure out if you have spurious directories look for the theme’s index.php or style.css file. They should be here:
wp-contents
themes
contrast-style
index.php
style.css
Not here:
wp-contents
themes
contrast-style-version-whatever
contrast-style
index.php
style.css
I hope that makes sense.
If you want to use the built in upload/edit functions you may have to get help from your web-host to get some ownership/permissions changes.
YOU DID IT!!!
I didn’t know I should unzip the file first before uploading it. I knew that the dashboard always told me to upload zipped files. So I figured the same holds true when uploading other ways.
Any ideas how to upgrade my version of WP? What should I do about the permission problem? Can I upload the new version to a particular folder?
Thank you!!!
The best way to update, according to me, is just follow the upgrade intructions here. Read the whole page and understand it. Don’t just jump in the first time you see ‘do <something>’.
Looks rather complicated. I thought I had updated before without all this work. I might just leave my blog with the current version.
By the way, can you give me advice with my photos. Import brought all my photos over from my old site. Do I have to go through my 70 photos and change their links from the old site and find their photo in the new library and connect them? Is there any faster way to do this?
Thanks again.
Its actually very easy and very quick once you get your head around it. Don’t leave the site un-upgraded. Eventually someone will find an exploit, even there are no known exploits right now, and you’ll be vulnerable to attack.
