URL change problem

    Hello everyone
    today I wanted to change my site’s URL to make a short one. I followed instructions:
    http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Changing_The_Site_URL
    …and changed it with method “Changing the URL directly in the database” I did it exactly like in your instructions, but it didn’t work. I got error database connection when I typed new URL. Do you know maybe what could be a problem? Thanks!

    What were the old values and what did you change exactly? Nothing in that Codex article should have caused your mysql database settings to change.

    If you can explain what and where you made changes then someone may be able to walk you through a fix.

    OK well I entered php my admin, and then to wp_options and then siteurl I edited with new url and then press Go. After that i found home and there I also edited with new URL,press Go and when I typed new URL it didnt work???

    That’s… odd. Unless you’re going to another broken WordPress installation entirely (possible) you still should not get that error message.

    Can you use phpMyadmin and change the values back?

    but what should I do if again I het error database problem??? to import backup of database?

    I did it again now and it doesnt work. When I change URL in database it gives me a website of hosting???

    I tried now 3 time to change URL directly in database and it doesn’t work, this your method doesn’t work. You should test it or remove it from your instructions so people won’t lose their time trying it.

    Please Take A Deep breath™: there is nothing in that Codex page that would disconnect you from your database.

    Scrolling through this topic and I still have some questions that might help figure out what happened and what the fix may be.

    1. What is the text of the error message that you are getting?
    2. Can can you share a link to your site?
    3. Can you share what the old values that you’ve changed and what the new values?
    4. Do you have a database backup made before you attempted to make changes?

    Some or all of those answers could help others help you out of this mess.
