URL index.php How to Remove???

I tried to get my permalinks right, but I can’t seem to fix it.

I want to change my links from http://example.com/index.php/example

to

http://example.com/example

already checked the .htaccess and the mod rewrite is the same as in the codex: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/htaccess#Basic_WP

Already tried to remove it by making a custom permalink: http://example.com/%postname%/ and save it. It shows that the link is changed but when I hit “View page” it gives me a 404 error.

Kindly enable mod_rewrite for your server.

btw i dont have an .htaccess file i had to reach it through my network.php

If the root folder of your blog don’t have .htaccess file. Creat it, then add the code in the above link to it, set permalink.
It will work.

Ask your hosting to allow mod_rewrite.

Are you using a Windows or a Linux server?

Most Windows servers don’t support .htaccess files or mod_rewrite, so the “standard” way to do permalinks doesn’t work.

You can get around it by following these steps:

http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Using_Permalinks#Permalinks_without_mod_rewrite

Hopefully that will let you get it set up the way that you want to.

If all else fails you could always consider moving the iste to a *nix hosting server that does support .htacess and mod_rewrite. But that would be a last resort.
