Use structuare tags in custom URL format – %monthnum%

I would like use a custom URL format that contains standard wordpress structure tags such as %monthnum%, etc.

Am I limited to just some plain text in that field? The structure tags don’t work – they just display literally as %monthnum% in the URL.

I need to make a custom post type that has a url with the date in it, such as:
post-type-slug/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%
