If I upgrade to the paid version, can I use this plugin for the portfolio section not posts?

Yes, using the advanced version you can re-order all of your site custom post types https://www.nsp-code.com/premium-plugins/wordpress-plugins/advanced-post-types-order/

@tdgu just to clarify, can I disable it for posts? The free version is causing the dates on my blogs to go out of order. Thanks.
