• Hi there!

First of all, I’m new here and started using wodrpress just a few months ago to create blogs etc. So I know how to use it but I’m going to take the next stept!

Basically, what I want to do is turn a design into a wordpress theme (yeah I know I sound naive…) I’ve been doing my research and I’ve found some “PSD to WordPress” software, but I don’t feel very confident about it…
I know I can take an existing WP theme and customize it, but I don’t know if that’s a good idea.

What do you think? You think it’d be best to take a theme and change it or start a new one from scratch?
I know HTML and CSS but not much about PHP so if I could avoid it it’d be fantastic.

I know it’s hard (or at least I think it is) but I was hopig you guys could help me out a little.

    Cheers!

  • If you are new to theme development and aren’t yet comfortable using PHP, then starting with a basic theme is probably the best way to go.

My personal preference is Toolbox but others like frameworks such as Thematic. Alternatively, a theme like Suffusion allows you lots of customisation options without knowing any PHP.

Suffusion is pretty customizable. Do you think I can use my whole own design by changing stuff in Suffusion?

    Thanks.

To be honest, I don’t know for sure. I’ve not used Suffusion myself (it’s more of a user’s theme than a developer’s) and I have no idea what your design idea is. All I can suggest is that you download the theme and have a play with it.
