Use Shortcode in image metadata?

Sorry for the late reply. Places other than post content do not execute shortcode out of the box. Like you said we need to add additional hooks to execute them..

Since execution of shortcode is generic and not specific to shortcoder you can find solutions online to execute shortcode where you like. You might also need some help with the theme developer to add support the execution of the shortcodes.

Looking at the code at gallery shortcode WordPress does execute shortcode. https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/browser/tags/5.6/src/wp-includes/media.php#L2119

If it is not executed in your case the implementation might have been different by your theme.
