Use with Advanced Custom Fields?

Hi, I’m contemplating using this plugin for an upcoming project, and I have a couple initial questions:

1.) We would want to show related posts of both the standard post type and of an “Events” custom post type. Events have custom fields (via ACF) for “event_start_date” and “event_end_date”- would it be possible to filter related Events posts to just upcoming events, i.e. with an end date after the current date? Perhaps via a pre_get_posts hook?

2.) I also just want to confirm that it’s possible to customize the markup for the display of related posts, and use custom fields when required?
