• So, I came here to complain how this plugin did not work, how it was disappointing me because it used to work and how I ran off and grabbed BackUpWordPress and it worked. That is until I DID install BUWP and it told me it was backing up my 1GB database/files collection.

    Needless to say I was completely dumbfounded as to the size and went to investigate. Come to find out that when you start a compression of the site and cancel it, BackWpUp does not delete the temp file lol. Filled my hard drive with temp files till it could not back up any more. After some housekeeping and general maintenance everything is working the way it should.

    I had three recommendations. First, instead of sitting at “Compression method is ZipArchive” it REALLY should say “Compressing files, please be patient this may take a while” so those of us who think its just sitting there broken would be able to understand this is how it works.

    Second off, give us a database size of which we will be compressing. This would of saved me LOADS of time in figuring out my issue.

    Finally, mention that ZIP is MUCH slower then say TarGZip. It sat for 500 seconds with zip and was (from what I can guess with the size of the temp files) about half way done and with GZip it took 55 seconds flat to complete

    EDIT: After talking with the dev’s I was thrilled at their help. Revised to 5 stars!!!

    First of all, in the new beta, please try out https://github.com/inpsyde/backwpup , the bug that it does not delete the temp file is fixed. 🙂

    We will implement your first recommendation, your second recommendation can’t be done completely but in the new beta it shows how many records you have in each table, so you can figure out, how big your database is. Hope that will help.

    We will also implement your third recommendation! But won’t be done in the next release. Thanks a lot BASiQ!

    I hope after we implement your recommendations or try out the beta, you change your ratings. 🙂

    Just for a general information: Reason why we weren’t able to give any support for the FREE users where just the tremendous effort of support we had to give to our PRO users. We added two new team members to the support, on our cost now, just to serve the FREE users. I hope this will be appreciated and free users understand, that a response time will be up to a week for free users, we`ll try to be faster. PRO users still get a response within 24 hours.
