• Thanks to the developer for a useful plugin!

I don’t understand why so many people are giving it bad reviews for being not able to edit the file name manually. You edit the file title and the file name gets updated. I think this is quite ‘manual’!

    I have two queries:

    1) I found that, when the renamed file is used by another plugin, it identifies the file with the original name with which it was uploaded. How is it possible? Does that mean that, the original file name still exists?

    2) Although the links in my website are updated after the renaming, when I download the file from a web page, it gets downloaded with the old name. Only when the file is deleted from the page and reinserted does the new name appears in the download. Why is it so?

    Hello Bradex,

The manual edit was added as a Pro option, and that’s how the plugin has been able to survive and improve. Many people don’t get that, expect the manual edit as part of the Pro, mention they are forced into buying it, etc… The world is big and not everyone is like you, many people just expect everything to come for free and developer to help if it doesn’t work. I believe ww.wp.xz.cn should change their attitude otherwise quality plugins will all go on another platform someday (already is) and here will just be a garbage bin :/

The original name is only kept in a mysterious field that only my plugin knowns, and actually don’t even use 😉 (I am thinking of adding a rollback function in case a mass-renaming went wrong). Otherwise, I don’t really see why a plugin would pick the old file. Are you sure it’s not picking the slug? Are you renaming the slug as well? Can you see that old filename anywhere else in the Media Library or when you try to edit the media?

I just edit the file title. I have not touched the slug. In fact, I can not see the ‘slug’ field for my file.

The plugin in question is: Enable Media Replace. After renaming a file, when I try to replace the file with this plugin, I get this message: “NOTE: You are about to replace the media file “oldname.jpg”. There is no undo. Think about it!”
