What’s the URL to your registration and login pages? Have you changed any options in the plugin recently? Are you logged in to WordPress when you’re trying to register? Do you have Username is Email set to Yes? Do you have any social login options enabled?
http://www.bica.net/register/ & http://www.bica.net/login/ – I’ve set the email to username and tried without it no joy. No social logins are enabled. And I’ve tried registering whilst logged in and not. All was working fine and then I moved the url from a subdirectory (/clean) to the primary public html, updating config, settings and .htaccess files. I’ve also manually checked all the pages and removed any reference to /clean/ subdirectory.
Come on guys. You haven’t let me down in the past and always come up with a solution that keeps the client happy! This is really urgent and even if I have to recreate the whole site I will (reluctantly). Inspire me please…
still more fiddling about etc and no results – could this be related to the .htaccess file or any of the settings/function files?
Hi blade,
It would be hard for us to know if it has anything to do with your .htaccess file or your theme’s functions file, as we don’t know what they contain and have no control over them. Perhaps the “username exists” message you’re getting is just masking some other error. What happens if you try and create a user manually in the admin? Do you get an error message and, if so, what does it say? What happens if you try and import new users via spreadsheet upload? Do you get an error message and, if so, what does it say?
Creating a user in admin and attempting to import spreadsheet yield nothing and no error messages either! HELP GUYS!!!!
We just took another look at your site and it seems to be progressing to the second step of the registration now and not throwing the “username already exists” message. We’re you able to figure out what was causing the issue on your end?
Did a clean install of the site on another server and all was good!
Thank you for following up and letting us know. It was a strange issue, but glad to hear you have it working now.
