User Level Restriction Messages

The User Level restriction message seems to follow the level of the connected user and not the restriction configured for the content. Example a page is limited to authors user level and if a contributor user is connected, the contributor message is displayed. The explanation in the settings explains the opposite “Message displayed when a user does not have permission to view Author restricted content”. Could you explain me if and why possibly I’m wrong.
