Hi, is there any restriction when using the username? When using a name that contains a utf-8 character (e.g. “š, č”), it writes “Error: invalid username”. Alternatively, is it possible to use only an e-mail address and not a username for registration? Thank you

  • Hi @fasirko,

A valid WordPress username is one that only has alphanumeric characters (letters and numbers), spaces, and/or certain special characters, namely underscores, hyphens, periods, and @ symbols. No other special characters are allowed. This restriction means usernames containing UTF-8 characters like “š” or “č” are considered invalid.

Moreover, using a username for registration is a default feature of WordPress, and it requires every user to have a unique username along with an email address. At this time, we do not provide an option to override this behavior and allow registration with only an email address.

Let us know if you have any other questions or need assistance with anything else.
