Yes, when you create a membership level you can also assign a WP User Role via the following option Default WordPress Role (required). Please see the following documentation for more information.

Not exactly what I am trying to do. The reverse of that is what I want to assign a membership level to everyone who has a user role of contributor for example.

Unfortunately we don’t have a feature to cater for what you are trying to achieve.

it would be nice if there was a way to add members with a certain user role in bulk to a specific membership level. Ex all users with user role of author add to platinum Member level
