User role “None”

    Hi!

    Automatically created users without a security group are still getting the user role “None” instead of the standard user role (I haven’t changed this, it’s set to ‘subscriber’ right now) selected under settings.

    Hello fashioncoree,

    I can not reproduce your error. I tried it on one of our local WordPress single site environments and everything worked as intended. I would also like to remind you that the standard user role set under settings is not applied if a security group is not mapped. Instead the subscriber role is always applied to users of security groups without a role mapping.

    OK, I’ve done some more digging.
    So the creation of a new account without a security group works fine, the new user gets the subscriber role.
    But.. if I have clean existing roles enabled, once the user signs in a second time the user gets a “none” role.

    This is surely not how it’s supposed to be right?
    I gotta be able to clean user roles for users getting changed into other security groups without it affecting users without a security group?

    Hello fashioncoree,
    this is the expected behavior. With clean existing roles activated, NADI checks for role equivalent groups every time users are updated with data from the Active Directory (Sync to WordPress for example). If a user does not have a valid role equivalent mapping, his roles get removed completely.

    But is it really supposed to work like that? removing the role added by default when no security group is present? This means having a default role is not going to work while also using other roles.

    I suggest checking if the user is part of a security group, if so keep only the roles linked to the security group/groups.
    If the user is not part of any security group, keep/reset to the default subscriber role.

    “None” should never be used as it’s not an actual role and is never used by the WordPress core itself?
