• Hello everyone,

I was reported today that when an user tries to register, they are asked for an username and email, but the password cannot be defined, they receive a “strong” (aka impossible to remember) pass. Once logged they can’t edit the pass, only generate a new strong one. I’ve never (knowlingly) edited settings to achieve that, and despite my Googling can’t find what’s causing it. Any guidance?

I have a WP Multisite with LoginLockdown, WordFence and JetPack which allows WordPress.com users.

OK, I wasn’t understanding it correctly. I think this isn’t very intuitive.
Registration: user/mail. Receive a random pass in the email.
Forgotten password: Receive random pass in the email.

Going to your profile -> There’s only a button for “password generation” that creates a random strong password. I didn’t think until now that I was able to edit it an write whatever I like. Is this the basic WordPress behavior?

It is, IMHO, not a great UI because it’s not clear you can overtype it. However, you should not encourage users to use memorable passwords. Let WP generate something nasty and tell your users to have their browsers or password manager remember it for them and synch it across their devices.

Well this happened to me as well, when I tried to regenerate the password for the user via admin dashboard, they never receive emails for their new password. I just disabled the logins hoping new updates will fix this issue.
