Users in multiple roles/groups

I’m using permit press core and I’m having an issue in which permit press is displaying users under a role that they shouldn’t be assigned to and which is not displayed in the normal Users list on the dashboard. I am using the Event Calendar plugin and in the permit press group page it is stating that there are users in the Event Contributer role although they don’t seem to be assigned to that role. Is there any way to remove users from a wordpress role when they are not assigned that role?
