Using featured post loop but one extra post shows on previous posts

Problem: I’m using a tweaked version on this loop http://rhymedcode.net/1001-wordpression-loops/feature/ I have the front blog page showing 5 posts but when I go to previous posts there are 6 posts. I think it has something to do with the featured post not being included in the previous posts. I need to be able to tweak the code to either not show the featured post on the previous pages or link the <?php next_posts_link() ?> to another template.

I’m super new at this, I basically just tweak it until I can get it to work the way I want. I would appreciate it if you could use simple terms for this.
