Hi,
Some additional information about this phenomenon. I thought I’d just try the paid extension to hide the path to the download file.
After uploading and activating, the download worked immediately. I have not changed the shortcut. The option is still set to Download via PHP option.
Is there any way to explain this? As I understand it, another shortcut must be used with the paid addon.

According to my starting text, I have a strange problem with “Simple Download Monitor” if I want to use downloading by PHP function. Every file is 0 KB. That addon/extension is available on ww.wp.xz.cn or not? Should I use your contact form for that?
Anyway, there is an overlap with another (paid) plugin. That was only activated and then it goes. If this is deactivated again, then it does not work. The background to this would be equally interesting.
Hi, I think your best option is to carry out a plugin/theme conflict test. Then report back with any findings.

I searched for plugin/theme conflict, but it looks like it is a failure of the plugin. According to my tests, there is no change if I disable all plugins and themes.
Maybe it is a problem of a php setting or similar, but without answering my question, I’m not able to give the webhoster more information.
What PHP version is running in your server? Can you also run a site health check in your site. To do this, go to Tools -> Site Health.

Hello, the webserver use PHP 7.4.16 and the site health shows me: all Ok.
I started changing to a new theme. Maybe that change something… Will response after finishing.

Hello,
I changed successful to a new modern theme. I don’t need the Add-On “Hidden Downloads” anymore. The download with PHP shipping work without the extension.
I’m not able to tell you what was the problem between the old theme and “Simple Download Monitor”. It looks like, enabling “Hidden Downloads” repair that without I need to change anything to the shortcut or block.
