Having tried to update the Prose theme, I encountered the same issue as detailed here – https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/prose – i.e. I’m just getting an error message, and can do nothing.
Apparently the solution is to edit the theme name via FTP, but I don’t know how to do that. Heck, I barely know what FTP is. I downloaded FileZilla and entered my login details for the site, but it says it can’t connect to the server.
Is there anyone who can give me a step-by-step, talking me through how to carry out the required fix?
    Thanks.

FTP is entirely separate from your site. You’ll need to consult your hosting provider’s documentation or contact them for details on accessing your server via FTP.

Once you have accessed your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate.
