• Folks,

I have this frustrating problem of using FTP on my MacBook Pro. I have downloaded the Mac version of the FTP software and set up the Username and Password. I click the FTP icon on my Desktop, and a window opens, in which an arrow directs me to drag the FTP icon to the Applications icon (A). I do that and click the FTP icon and nothing happens.

Could you tell me what’s happening?
    Thanks,
    Tafader

  • This really isn’t a WordPress issue, but what FTP software are you using? Have you looked at the documentation for it?

Thanks, WPyogi. I don’t know what you mean by “what FTP software.” I just downloaded FTP software for Mac from the Internet. I asked my ISP, GoDaddy.com, to help me figure out the problem. They say because I’m using the WordPress platform, I should as WP for help!

    Thanks.

FTP is not part of WordPress – it’s a way to access files on a remote server. There are many different FTP software makers – such as FileZilla, CyberDuck, etc. Which one are you trying to use?

Thanks again. Let me go back to my Go Daddy account and see what it is. I’ll be back soon.

Go to your Go Daddy hosting, on right hand side it says FTP, copy that address and put it in host in file zilla. Now click the ftp users button on the same page and copy the randome numebrs and letters that is in blue, copy that put it as username and your password, you should change the password on that main ftp user username, and use that. should work then

    Hi WPyogi,

I talked with Go Daddy Support and, according to their advice, I have downloaded the FileZilla software. I’d need to find out how to connect FileZilla to my two websites so I can upload my Desktop files and images to those sites. Can you help? Or are there instructions for it somewhere?

    Thanks,

Make sure that you downloaded the “client” (not server) version.

For password and user info, you need to get that from GD:

    Hi,

I already downloaded File Zilla (Client) and did the following:

I went into my Go Daddy account, clicked FTP Users button, then copied the link in the address bar (beginning with https//:), pasted it in the File Zilla Host box, put in my FTP Username and Password, and clicked the Enter arrow.

I get the message saying it was “Invalid protocol.” Bellow, I get (protocol?) suggestion: ftp://…., sftp://….ftps://…. and ftpes.

I guess I didn’t copy the correct FTP address bar link, right?

    Hi,

    Please ignore my reply above.

I have set up File Zilla. Now, when I click the FZ icon (on the dock), I see the following folders in the box under “local site”: net, private, sbin, tmp, etc., but no Desktop folder from where I would upload the files and images. How can I get the files from my desktop?

Also, should I drag the files into the box under “local site” or into the one under “remote site”?

    Thanks,
    Tafader
