Using plugin outside of a widget

I have installed the plugin and it works fine in a text widget. My theme (Ultraclassifieds, a child theme of ClassiPress) has several ad spots. When I try to place a shortcode in there, it just displays the text of the shortcode. Any ideas? Thanks!
