Using rel="next with a two part article

I do some long articles, and want to split them into multiple pages, but can’t find much info on inserting the rel=”next” url into the header. I figure one way to do it would be to add in some php code into the header that checks to see if a custom field is filled and then echo the results. Does anyone have a better idea or know of a plugin that does this cleanly?
