Using wordpress generated image sizes in background?

I wonder, isn’t it possible to use WP’s automatically generated image sizes as background images in SS3?
It doesnt seem as though the slider automatically replaces the fullscale images with lower resolution for smaller screen sizes like srcset.
Is there some workaround, or do I really have to generate exact image sizes for each screen size?
