    Hi,

We are using your plugin with GridBuilder and Flatsome Theme.

I was recommended to use your plugin a while back so that we can create various Taxonomies, that can then be used in the Gallery created via GridBuilder and filter the photos according to taxonomies.

I have already created all relevant Taxonomies:

    COLOUR

    SIZE

    CATEGORY

    TYPE

And these display in the MEDIA SECTION, whereby then we can add the tags in these fields in the MEDIA section for each Image. So then the correct photos display depending on the taxonomy/filter chosen in the Gallery.

All is working great with your plugin.

The only issue is that the client is UNHAPPY about the way they can ADD taxonomies to the MEDIA page. As the only way to do this is to type in the taxonomy with a hyphen eg dark-black or 7-2 which is for 7.2 as the taxonomy won’t allow you type in a decimal for 7.2

Therefore we have a few little issues that need to be sorted.

Is there a way for the Taxonomies in the MEDIA section in those fields to be shown as a Drop DOwn menu rather than blank space, where Client has to type in the taxonomy/tag and then if he types it incorrectly it adds another field in the Gallery for filter ..

Example if we have “outdoor-umbrella” typed in to the taxonomy of “TYPE”, and then after that we type in “out-door umbrella” typing it in slightly differently, it creates a NEW field in the Filter area, rather than finding a similar name, otherwise it keeps duplicating similar ones because the Client has typed it incorrectly OR he cannot remember the TYPES he created in the first place.

It gets rather frustrating even for me.

So HOW can we display fields in the MEDIA section when the TITLES underneath each other for the taxonomies are:

    COLOUR

    SIZE

    CATEGORY

    TYPE

BUT each of these, we have to manually TYPE in what it is eg Black, White, Green

OR under “TYPE ” : outdoor-umbrella, indoor umbrella, out door umbrella, pool umbrella, pool-umbrella

Therefore in the above “TYPE” it creates these items in the FILTER in the Gallery but out door umbrella AND outdoor-umbrella are exactly the same thing, it’s just the person typed it incorrectly … Therefore we want to reduce the frustration for the client when setting things up …

I hope I haven’t confused you in what I am meaning, as I’m trying to explain it the best I can and NOT to confuse anyone.

    Thanks

    Kristin

Before I respond to the rest of this, I want to get a quick confirmation.

What are you referring to when you say “MEDIA SECTION” ?

Are you referring to https://mydomain.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=117 where you’re seeing Attachment details like uploaded details, file name/types/size/etc and where to set alt text and title/captions/descriptions? Basically assigning the taxonomies to the “attachment” post type?

Or is “MEDIA SECTION” in your example, something provided by like GridBuilder and Flatsome Theme. I’ve heard of Flatsome and sort of maintained updates to it for clients in the past, but I’m not familiar with it that much, or GridBuilder at all. This may be a feature from them.

I know the term slugs would be “normalized” to dashes, but the term names look like they can have decimals

    HI

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I’m referring to the area in the MEDIA section where it shows the ALT / Title / Descriptions etc .

Then underneath that, your taxonomies Titles get added underneath with a blank FIELD, for us to add in the Colours etc.

    Thanks

    Gotcha.

This is actually what i consider to be a “black box” of sorts. As technically media are their own post type with “attachment” and you can assign taxonomies to them. However it’s definitely all a different proverbial beast since it’s still WordPress core rendering things. The media library modal popup is built in Backbone last I knew, and I’ve never attempted to do any sort of customizations of this.

So I don’t really want to blame any particular player here, other than just media is not the most customizable spot.

I know there are plugins out there that do a lot with the media library, but CPTUI doesn’t intently. At least as is, it sounds like the frustrations are more around management of the terms with what does get rendered, and I admittedly don’t have answers for how to amend.
