• It looks like upgrading to v1.9.9 breaks the website – you’re likely to get a white screen on the site and Admin section. It may not work for everyone but I did the following to get it fixed.

If you have a white screen
    1) FTP to the Plugins directory and rename the Portfolio Slideshow folder
    2) You should now be able to login to the Admin section

    Resolve the issue
    1) Login and go to Plugins and delete v1.9.9
    2) Go to the Developers tab and download v1.5.1
    3) Upload and activate v1.5.1

I can’t guarantee it but your site should now be working again and the slideshows still working.

  • Hi Andoverit,

Unfortunately I don’t know how to access my files via FTP. Also, I AM able to access the Developers tab and download v1.5.1, but I don’t know how to upload it to the host server.

I’m not sure if I’m a lost cause here because I’m lacking so much of the WordPress fundamentals, but I’d like to try your suggestions if there’s any possibility you could further explain how I do those two things. If you have any other suggestions, I’d be open to try that too.

This is frustrating! I have a football website, and it’s the time of year that my views really ramp up. I hate knowing that the slideshow is not working!

    Hi Randy.

Your web host should give you access to the files on the website. FTP is just a method to move the files from your computer to the website.

Who is your website hosted with? They may have a way to upload files using your internet browser. If you can access the files I would suggest the following:

    1) Go to the Plugins folder (it’s in wp-content)
    2) Delete the portfolio-slideshow folder
    3) Refresh your website and you should now be able to login
    4) Upload and activate v1.5.1

You should now be back to normal 🙂

    Thank you Andoverit!!!

I deleted the Portfolio Slideshow folder, then uploaded and activated the older 1.5.1 version. The slideshows on my website are now working again!

For those of you that are as ignorant as I am about working with this stuff, this is what I did in more detail. My website is hosted on HostGator, so I’m not sure how that would make things differ…

    (1) I started by downloading the old v1.5.1 zip file for Portfolio Slideshow. It’s found here:

    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/portfolio-slideshow/developers/

The downloaded file will be used later in step #7

    (2) I logged into cPanel. (www.footballweblog.com/cpanel for me.) This brought me to HostGator’s Control Panel. I scrolled down to their File Manager tool in the Files section and double-clicked the icon.

    (3) I was prompted to select a directory to open. I didn’t have a clue, so I went with the default which was “Web Root (public_html/www)”. This apparently took me to the files on the HostGator server.

    (4) Next I went into the wp-content folder by double-clicking it. Next I went into the plugins folder. Lastly, I found the portfolio-slideshow folder and deleted it. Doing this apparently removed the entire Portfolio Slideshow installation that refused to work correctly. Once this was done, I closed the cPanel File Manager and logged out of HostGator’s Control Panel. Everything else is done through your WordPress’s wp-admin screen for your website.

    (5) Go to your wp-admin screen. (www.footballweblog.com/wp-admin for me.)

    (6) Select Plugins > Add New. Select ‘Upload Plugin’ from the top of the screen.

    (7) Browse to the .zip file you downloaded earlier, then hit the ‘Install Now’ button.

That’s it! You should now be running the old v1.5.1 version of Portfolio Slideshow that works!

Hope this helps someone — and thank you so much once again to andoverit!!!

    Kind regards,
    ~Randy

    Hey folks,

Thank you both for your polite back-and-forth here and for helping each other out. It’s great to see and I love the community around this plugin.

I’m sorry about how long it’s taken me to get to this thread, but just to note this, I’ve released version 1.11.1 about an hour ago and it’s the most stable version of Portfolio Slideshow yet.

It resolves a number of issues that have come up on these support forums.

I would recommend trying out this latest version instead of using the older 1.5.1 version or some other outdated software – for security purposes and other stability concerns, always use the most recent version of the plugin! (Which I know wasn’t possible recently, because of bugs in the plugin itself – but those bugs are fixed and your original issues may no longer be present upon updating.)

I hope the new version helps!

    Cheers,
    George
