You say you added the Product IDs 301, 302, 306, 307, 312? So these are new variations to be created with the import?
You shouldn’t put anything in the ID field for new items – the import will generate these automatically – you have a very real risk of damaging the database if those IDs already exist!
I always find that when importing, it’s best not to have an ID column at all and just refer to the Parent (Genitore) SKU instead.
ok
meanwhile i have found my problem
the difference betweeb VARIABLE and VARIATION..which i did not use before
NOw things go on
It create the parebt product and some other things like the attribute
But these attribute are not shown in the VARIATION fields, so this field remain empty
In the file, that now is modified
you see hte PRODUCT3 (with some variation) which i have created in th ebackend and CANE(with 2 variation) which i have created in th csv file. These 2 variation are not shown..the flag “shown in varitaion” in attribute field does not come out flagged
ALso when i import the file and there is not already th eprodcut is fine, if the product is there and i use the UPDATE import i always get error “not valid product”
also, now when i export there are many, row called AUTODRAFT, that seems related to prodotto3 which i ceated..what’s this?may be because of the ID i add? how do i clean completelly the product database?
i could delete the autodraft!
Hi @stefanocps
Thanks for reaching out!
Checking your CSV file, there are empty columns and there are columns that are separated by commas which seem inconsistent.
Can you please re-create your CSV file based on the guidelines on this support documentation when importing and exporting products to your site using the built-in Product CSV Importer and Exporter?
Let us know how it goes!
i could get to make the csvwork..because i di not pay attention to the difference between Variable and Variation..now i know that first i need to build the VARIABLE parent product
Still, the process of inserting product is slow, no faster then inserting through backened. There are many record that i have to fill manually, even if the repeat the same value of the above record. What could make it quicker is to have the possibility to have this record filled automatically when i create a new record (with a default value) or if i could choose from a a list of predefined value. Is that possible? Or is there, in general, a way to speed up this process and make it really faster then inserting products via backend?
thanks
Hello,
What could make it quicker is to have the possibility to have this record filled automatically when i create a new record (with a default value) or if i could choose from a a list of predefined value. Is that possible? Or is there, in general, a way to speed up this process and make it really faster then inserting products via backend?
I understand your point. One possibility is to manually create a template, for example a template row, that way you can add product faster adding that template each time you need to create a product, but please note there would be a moment when you will need to add manually some fields (to do not repeat information).
Other possibility is to export one variable product you already have added, you can export it, that will create a CSV file as well that you can use as a template to add new variable products (Assuming you manually will edit the data in order to avoid duplication).
how do i clean completelly the product database?
This action will depend on your needs, you can export all of your products, and then delete them, now you can import a new file and make the changes.
Let us know if there are any questions.
