Im not sure if the following is possible as I cant figure out how to get it to work so far.

Im selling posters and these are available to purchase as posters only in A3,A2 A1 and A0 sizes. I also would like to offer framed versions.

My supplier only sells the framed versions in Inches not A Sizes so I was also adding the following sizes 12×16, 18×24, 23×32, and 28 x 40 in 3 frames types Black, White and Natural finish.

Can this be done on one listing ? I dont want people to be able to select both say A3 poster and also be able to select 12×16 black framed poster for example.

    Ive tried setting a variation NONE | A3 | A2 | A1 | A0 etc but this wont work.

    Any advise would be appreciated.

This is another try adding all sizes together but Id need to disable be able option to add a frame type if buyer selects say A2 Print Only option.

    https://www.photographyart.simonplant.co.uk/product/bluebells-in-the-morning-mist-copy/

Use two attributes – Size and Frame:

    Size: A2, A3 12×16, 18X24 etc
    Frame: None, Black, White, Natural

    Then add variations like:

    Size: A2 – Frame: None
    Size: A3 – Frame: None
… A new variation for each size without a frame option

    Size: 12×16 – Frame: Black
    Size: 12×16 – Frame: White
    Size: 12×16 – Frame: Natural
… do this for each size with a frame option – so multiple variations per size with different frame types.

Spoke too soon ive spent the day but given up trying to make this work.

Im sure im missing something or maybe this cant be made to work the way I’m trying… any ideas before I ditch offering frames??

I have all sizes listed in one set of variations and then 3 frames listed with a no frame attribute. Simon

How have you set the variations up? Can you add a screenshot?

Hi Sean, yes here they are below.

Ive disabled the swatches plugin.Im using Wooblocks to create a custom product page but also tried standard Woocommerse and tried default 2024 theme too in case its a bug but no differen=ce was made.

Here is a brief video of all settings

Thanks – that makes it a lot easier to see what’s happening!

First thing – not sure why there are 4 copies of each of the No frame size options showing – you should only have one of each.

You’re right about having to select one of each attribute – unfortunately, that’s the way WooCommerce handles the variations.

The size options will only show in the frontend if there is a possible variation available – so if you have the ‘A2 – No Frame’ set as the default it will only show the sizes with No Frame available unless you deselect the frame option – it is a bit confusing for the customer as you say! The only way round that I think is to not have a default specified – so each options will show ‘Choose an option’

Personally, with options like this I wouldn’t use the built in variations – instead look at something like Extra Product Options – it will do things like conditionally show options like you need – example here: https://epo.themecomplete.com/product/conditional-logic-test-2/

Hey Sean thanks ive spent a day and a half on this and didn’t know if it was working correctly (but poorly) or I was just setting it up wrong.

Seems it’s just not that intuitive for the user. Ive looked the that plugin and maybe that is an option. Does any other solution come to mind?

Maybe I can just drop all the A-size posters and just offer all the same 12×16 etc as framed or unframed that should simplify everything. Thanks for your time and advise I’m off to lie down!

Hey there, @prophotoinsights! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

I tried checking the product page you shared here, but got a Page Not Found error.

I replicated your product on my website to test, and here’s what I did:

    • Created the two attributes like you did and added the variations
    • Automatically generated all variations, then I deleted the ones you did not want to use (no frames for the inches, and frames for the paper size)
    • Set a price to the variations and published the product

Do you mind sharing the link again of the product so we can takea look and see how it is working on your site?

Have you followed @seank123’s suggestions of not having a default variation and only having one variation for the paper size?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hi thanks for your time.

I realised what I thought was wrong was in fact working correctly and the way WooCommerce works but to me it would confuse potential buyers to what needed selected.

I decided to ditch the A sized poster only option and made all the posters in inches either with or without frames.
