Version 5.0 Ruined the Plugin
-
The latest 5.0 version update is exactly what I feared would happen. A functional and familiar system has to be destroyed just because someone wants to “revamp” it. The end result is absolutely terrible, and I don’t think I’m alone in this opinion!
I don’t want to be negative, but I have to say that pretty much everything has been ruined. The add-on looks worse than before—just plain white and light gray, making it difficult to distinguish different elements. On top of that, some weird custom fonts have been used, which don’t match the rest of the WP-admin environment. The dates don’t follow the format set in WordPress. In the backup history, clear text labels have been replaced with vague symbols and dots, with a mouseover tooltip displaying numbers. What is happening here?

Even worse, all the essential functions (jobs, logs, etc.) have been mysteriously hidden behind advanced menus. Backup jobs that I had given logical, structured names are now generically labeled as “files backup” and “database backup,” and I can’t even edit them anymore! All the fields are grayed out and disabled. What the heck?! I also tried running a backup, and it got stuck in the Dropbox upload phase, sending me 10 email notifications about the failed backup attempt.
I hate to say this, but an add-on I once loved has been completely ruined. 😞
Even if the worst bugs get fixed, that won’t change the fact that the new UI is absolutely awful.Luckily, I only installed this on one of my sites. Now I have to lock updates on all the WordPress sites I manage to make sure I don’t accidentally upgrade to this 5.0 version. I’m also keeping a backup of version 4.1.7 just in case. I can only hope I can manage with it for as long as possible…
