I don’t have any control over how long the WordPress Plugin Directory caches pages. (Which is ironically the issue here.)
The current stable tag on trunk is 2.2.5:
https://plugins.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/browser/cache-control/trunk/readme.txt
The 2.2.5 tag also agrees that it is the most recent version:
https://plugins.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/browser/cache-control/tags/2.2.5/readme.txt
I’ll make a minor change to the text in the readme file and see if that nudges things along.
Thanks for replying! I unknowingly assumed you had some control over this, but if you are hamstrung by the cache(truly ironic) there is not much to do but wait 🙂

Okay, so this was on me. The directory no longer reads the version from the readme.txt file, and I hadn’t got the note on that one. Everyone was getting the 2.2.5 release but the display version was wrong.
