• Hi–

I’ve been running WordPress fine, using the Contempt theme, off of WordPress.com.

Now I want to change the # of recent posts.

I understand I have to change the index.php file in the theme folder (or the sidebar file).

I can’t find this folder anywhere. It’s not under Presentation. Do I need to access it by ftp? Or only if I run it on my own host?

    What are the steps here?

    1) get ftp access to wordpress?
    2) download my site
    3) find the wp_content/themes folder
    4) modify the php file pertaining recent posts?
    5) upload the site again?

I find pages and page of documentation on templates, but for actually getting them and modifying them I can’t seem to find the right links/search results.

    Thank you

Is your blog being hosted by wordpress.com as you indicate? if so, youre at the wrong support forums.

    http://wordpress.com/forums/ <– .com support

I can tell you though, that if you are currently hosted there, they do not have the option of making theme changes unless …

thats explained in their FAQ, btw:

So, yes, if you want to make those changes, you need to locate your own hosting, etc..
