I just updated my site with the latest Hueman Theme update and now none of the videos are showing, just blank page with description text but no video. I believe this is the same or similar thing that happened a few updates back, about 6 months ago. Thank you…

  • Hi shapeshift. If you’re using the version from the wp.org repository, the Video, Quote, Chat and Link post formats are not supported. I think they were included in a previous version but had to be removed because they were considered plugin functionality. Those post formats are supported in the theme version available on the theme website.

Hi bdbrown… Thank you for the quick reply. It’s odd because I am using the theme version, not the one on wp.org. No videos are showing up. Would you recommend that I try to reinstall the latest update?

BTW, this similar situation happened about 6 months ago. After I reported it, a new update was released that fixed the situation. I thought at first this is the same thing but maybe it’s something different.

I’m not aware of any problems with videos in v2.2.2. What was the previous version that you were running? Can you post a link to your site?

My site is http://www.shapeshift.net/. BTW, in WordPress admin for each post, I can no longer see the field where you insert the embed code for the video. Thank you for looking at this.

Under screen options are the post types enabled?

On the home page, what’s the difference between the Status Anxiety post, which doesn’t have a video, and the Google Fiber post, which does have a video? Both show that they are using the Video post format. Same thing on the second page. Super Science: Nanotechnology post has a video but Honey Hunters of Nepal doesn’t.

All the post types are enabled but no video embed field so I cannot find the code.

Whenever a video appears, it is because the video embed code was part of the Body Text Field. For most of the site though, the video embed code was inputted into the Video Embed Field (as was recommended) which has disappeared. And the videos on those pages are gone.

    You said above:

It’s odd because I am using the theme version, not the one on wp.org.

Your site css file shows this:

    Theme Name: Hueman
    Theme URI: http://alxmedia.se/themes/hueman/
    Version: 1.5.4

That version, from the wp.org repository, doesn’t support video post formats.

Oh, I thought you meant if I am using a version hosted on wp.org.

I am not working through wp.org at all. I originally downloaded Hueman and updated each time there is a update available within the WordPress backend. So, are you saying I should go to the Theme Website, download a version from there and install that instead? What about subsequent updates that appear within WordPress. Should I stop getting upgrades from there?

    Thank you…

I thought you meant if I am using a version hosted on wp.org.

ww.wp.xz.cn doesn’t host web sites; you may be thinking of wordpress.com. Different animals. The theme version you are running is from the ww.wp.xz.cn theme repository.

So, are you saying I should go to the Theme Website, download a version from there and install that instead?

Yes. This is the theme website. See this thread for a guide.

What about subsequent updates that appear within WordPress. Should I stop getting upgrades from there?

Yes. You’ll need to check for updates manually as noted in the thread above.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you bdbrown. I was finally able to do this last weekend. It works now, all the videos are back. I will stop updating the Hueman Theme through WordPress. This makes me wonder if the same applies for all WP Themes? This is a wake up call for me to start using the Child’s Theme!

Thank you for all your help
