hi, i am trying to place several video players on a page. The problem I am having is when viewed on iPhone or iPad the video container is not resizing to fit the width of the device. I emailed myself direct links to the videos and they loaded/resized correctly, and that is how I know the issue has to do with WP or the theme – also posted on the theme’s dev’s site and waiting for response.

Here are two pages each having a different version of a video player, one of them is a Youtube player:
    http://events.latimes.com/screenings/gallery-test-2/

    http://events.latimes.com/screenings/html5-videos-test/

Each of the players is brought into WP by an iframe, mainly because they link to several external css and js.

Any help would be immensely appreciated as i’ve been on this for too long and need to resolve it.

Thank you, I just tried that method. Although the outer div of the iframe is resizing correctly, the video frame itself is not. not sure what the hiccup is

an update: it seems resizing on the iPad is good, its only on the iPhone that the video comes out real big. If this could be replicated on a browser I could use chrome dev tools to troubleshoot, it loads just fine on chrome and in dev tools.

    songdogtech:
I do appreciate you wanting to be helpful. I am more than aware of what media queries are (not a noob to dev). My issue here is getting this thing working within the clunky WordPress environment (not my choice of framework).

Following the technique mentioned in your first reply (very helpful) would not require any media queries as everything gets set at 100%. Still, I went ahead and put in media queries anyway, for the benefit of the doubt, and got the same result. Had you looked at the code you would have noticed them. Not trying to be rude, just befuddled and running out of time. Incidentally I had made a mistake about the iPad load: it is not loading right there too.

Please look at the source/code first before posting:

Again I appreciate all the help I can get to put this to bed from any and all

Understand that #1, I’m a volunteer here (have been for 7 years); #2, I’ll parse source if I have the time; #3, that’s not a free theme in the WordPress theme directory https://ww.wp.xz.cn/themes , so technically no one here really needs to help you.

So: have patience. And don’t accuse me of not doing enough for you.

I am reposting here to help others who may come across a similar case. I had to dig deep into the code and found a section with hard coded values of width/height. once that was removed it all worked.

@roobp577 Thank you for sharing your solution, and I have removed your personal attack.

songdogtech is a valuable member of the community and our support team. In the future, I recommend treating the volunteers who are supporting you for free with respect. They could certainly be doing something better for themselves in their free time, but they chose to help people like you instead, for absolutely no compensation and barely any recognition.

Your premium theme had its own support included with the purchase that you could have gone to, you could have also hired someone to fix this, but you chose to come here instead, and songdogtech did his best to help you in the time he was willing to offer. Please be respectful of that next time, or hire someone via http://jobs.wordpress.net/ or http://directory.codepoet.com/

I have definitely been respectful, I think you have your wires crossed there my friend, please refer back to my comments, or at least read them twice before deleting. FIrst off I never accused him of not helping me, I do however question his methodology of just spurting out comments without reading the code. In your professional opinion do you think that is how we debug code, or offer help to others? Thank you for jumping to your colleagues aid without really reading whats been going on, that is telling of your professionalism by the way.

to be balanced please remove songdogtech’s last reply because that is coming across as a nag that does not help the troubleshooting process, I never accused him of anything other than his misplaced comment of “go learn about media quesries” which is really not professional either.

As for posting on a free or paid theme’s support: I was merely trying to reach out for help from anyone. The support team for that paid team are simply not responsive. Thank you

See, things like telling songdogtech he shouldn’t bother to help people, calling him a nag, telling me that I have my wires crossed, that I haven’t read the thread, and that I lack professionalism, what part of that sounds like respect to you, or even just general politeness?

If this is your approach to free volunteer support, I strongly suggest you just hire someone next time.

It seems you have a case of selective reading or something. I never said he shouldnt help people. I said he should not post or blurt out comments without reading the code. He says he will not look at the code if he does not have time to do so – did you see that comment? Please say you did and you’re just choosing to ignore it. How is that an effective methodolgy in troubleshooting? You’re really not reading all of what I am writing here. As for the dfifference between what is/is not polite – how many times do I post here that the volunteer effort is appreciated?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

And there you go with the insults again.

I did read the comment in question, and I agree with it. He didn’t have the time to look into your code (usually you have to hire someone for that, pay them, compensate them for their time in some way), so he gave you a solution that could have worked without it.

Point is, he still took time to give you a solution. That doesn’t prevent anyone else from stopping by with a different solution, yet he’s the only one who attempted to give you a solution. Your response to that effort was unwarranted.
