When I try and upload a video from my desktop that I shot on my iPhone 13 Pro, it will say it is optimizing and then will eventually say “upload failed.” I have already uploaded a video that is the same size using the same method and it uploaded just fine, so it may be a glitch in the system now as it did work at one point.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • @robbieannd Hi there, thank you for your topic.

To clarify, did you upload the video to the WP media library first then go to the editor to insert via the sidebar, or did you upload it directly into the editor, e.g. by drag & drop?

Hello, I tried both options listed above and receive the error message both times.

@robbieannd Hopefully you can help us gather a few more details to determine why your videos are failing to upload.

    – What operating device are you using?
    – Who is your hosting provider?
    – Could you please check for any browser console errors when the upload failed error displays?
    – What file type is your video? If possible, could upload the original video to Google Drive and share the link here? It would help us with testing your issue.

    – What operating device are you using? I am using my iPhone13 Pro

    – Who is your hosting provider? GoDaddy

    – Could you please check for any browser console errors when the upload failed error displays? I am using Google Chrome, however I am not sure how to check the browser console for errors.

    – What file type is your video? .mov (I did convert it to a .mp4 and it uploaded fine, but the quality was terrible).

    – If possible, could upload the original video to Google Drive and share the link here? It would help us with testing your issue.

The intro video uploaded fine. It is the outro video that gave me trouble. Uploaded both to the Google Drive link above so you can see how similar they are.

Overall I eliminated the videos for that story and my next, but will add videos in upcoming stories once we figure out the best way to shoot it one my phone and/or upload it to the platform.

    Thanks for all your help!

I am not able to access the link. Can you make the Google Drive files public?

You can check for any console errors by going in the developer tools console in Chrome and press F12.

MOV files will be converted to MP4 file format. MP4 is the recommended format for videos in stories.

Additionally, what is the size of your video? Could you share what you video optimization settings are under Stories -> Settings? Do you have Video Optimization or Video Cache enabled or disabled?

As far as Video Optimization or Video Cache, I just enabled both.

The optimization settings didn’t fix it. Can you share a way to convert to mp4 without losing quality? In iMovie perhaps? Also, if you have any suggestions on what to set my iPhone13 on while recording that would be helpful too. Thank you!

@robbieannd thank you for feedback. While we can’t advise you on the best way to convert your files outside of Web Stories we have been troubleshooting your issue but are yet to reproduce.

Can you please confirm you are still having this issue? This could be related to something like machine, browser, hosting provider so I will do some more troubleshooting on the issue and any further insights you could provide would be very helpful.

As soon as I have an update on this I will let you know.

I was able to convert my .mov files into .mp4 files using a third party application and that resolved me issue of being able to upload videos to the platform. Thank you for your help in resolving this!

@robbieannd Glad to hear that! Thanks for letting us know.

I’ll mark this topic as resolved but if you have any other questions feel free to create a new topic.
