Visual Editor and Open Graph Issues
-
Recently my visual editor started behaving erratically, loading endlessly before finally loading only to be unresponsive. If I disable Yoast, the visual editor returns and functions as normal but I lose the OG metadata.
Additionally, the open graph images are not displayed on pages and posts when shared, even though everything appears to be correct in the SEO settings. This is happening across Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, although on Twitter the error is inconsistent.
All of my plugins are up to date.

Hi @jlord ,
We’re sorry that you are experiencing problems that might be caused by our plugin!
Just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Nineteen and re-enable the visual editor.
Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.
As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.
Regarding the OpenGraph issue, can you please share a sample URL so we can check?
We look forward to your response.
I’m running WordPress 5.5 and Yoast Premium 14.7. Using the Health Check plugin, I was not able to replicate the error completely. I deactivated all plugins and added them back one by one, but the visual editor functioned as it should and the SEO box loaded fine. The Open Graph image was still not showing up, however.
Here is an example of a recent post that is not displaying it’s attached OG image:
https://www.sspnet.org/community/news/aaas-announces-move-to-atypon/@jlord Thanks for your reply. We understand that you tested the issue with only the Yoast SEO plugin active and the issue still occurred. Can you also confirm whether the problem occurred when using a default theme such as TwentyNineteen and only the Yoast SEO plugin active?
Yes, while using the troubleshooting mode with Health Check, the theme was TwentyTwenty.
Hi @jlord,
Thank you for your reply.
We visited the page you mentioned and do see some meta tags in the page source. However, this does not look like the Yoast SEO output we are familiar with. It does include an og:image on line 39 though: `
<meta property=”og:image” content=”http://www.sspnet.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/SSP-Facebook.jpg” />`.Can you confirm that Yoast SEO 14.7 is activated at this time? And that there is no other SEO plugin creating similar meta-content?
Yes, Yoast is 14.7 and it is the only plugin managing SEO.
The image that it’s pulling isn’t the image that I’ve loaded into Yoast. The correct image should be http://www.sspnet.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/og-1200×630-member-news-1.png
Hi @jlord,
Thank you for replying.
I had a second look at the page and found that there is more than one plugin or it’s your theme that is also outputting meta content on the page. The image you are linking is in the Yoast output in the page source from lines 137 to 161, as seen in this screenshot: https://snipboard.io/FCmtKO.jpg.
However, higher in the page source, there are different meta tags and the og:image in that code is still linking to
http://www.sspnet.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/SSP-Facebook.jpg. See this screenshot: https://snipboard.io/BxIW9M.jpg.This means you do have another plugin that is also putting SEO meta tags into the page, or your theme has some SEO settings as well. Please check if you can find any SEO settings that you can disable in your theme or if there is another plugin.
I just noticed that too – two sets of meta tags. None of the plugins installed immediately jump out as contributing to SEO but I will do some more exploring. Can I share a list of our plugins?
You can, but if you really can’t find any plugin that might do this, it will probably be included in your theme functionality.
thank you for your help! i’m working with our site developers now. they have fixed the visual editor issue but they are still working to find why there are two sets of meta tags displaying.
