I have the same issue. I have deactivated everything. Changed themes. Re-upgraded manually and still nothing …. my editor will not switch to visual and everything in the editor box is there but white on white.
I’m on an iMac G5 which cannot be updated to Intel Processor. So the 2 browsers I was using (Safari and Firefox) are not the latest versions and I’m unable to update because they all want Intel.
I just tried Opera Version 10.63
Build 8450
Platform Mac OS X
System 10.5.8
and I have my Visual editor back. Yay! All of the sites I was having the problem with can be properly viewed in Opera.
So I think the problem may be browser related.
Perhaps WordPress could create a hotfix for us older Mac users.
After upgrading to 3.3 the visual/html tabs in posts and pages have disappeared.
So far I have installed a clean clean copy of 3.2.x and all is well. After upgrading to 3.3 the editor disappears. I took it one step further and reverted back to 3.2.x and the visual tab didn’t return.
I’ve also installed clean copy of 3.3 and there’s no editor/visual tab after a clean install. I tested on Firefox, Chrome, and Safari on both Mac and PC.
Is this a feature or a bug? My client need and editor and has already created 50 pages. Any Ideas?

Make sure you’ve cleaned your cache, above all else.
It’s very much a browser issue for many people. :/
Same issue here. Cleared the entire browser cache. Firefox 8.0. No visual editor menu for posts. No ability to post media at this point, except through raw HTML on the HTML tab.
Thanks Ipstenu your suggestion that this is a cache issue it sent me on an entirely different path.
Latest results…I’m now convinced that this is a OSX issue. I tried clearing the cache on all browsers to no avail. I then installed a clean OSX operation on a new partition and guess what? The issue no longer exists. I then did a restart on the original OS with the shift down to and the issue disappeared. I’ve been working with Macs since the mid 80’s and have never come across an issue like this. Now that I’m 99% sure this is a OSX issue I’ll start the tedious task of trying to sort out where the problem exists. Any ideas will be much appreciated.
Cheers
My issue is resolved. It’s a firewall issue relating to Net Barrier X6 on OSX. After uninstalling it the visual tab returned on all browsers.
Does anyone know why the Net Barrier firewall would block an editor in WordPress but not in Joomla?
Turned out to be a quick fix on my Mac. I use VirusBarrier and their suggestion to adjust my preferences back to default fixed the problem on every one of my sites:
“How to: Open VirusBarrier X6 and click the word VirusBarrier in the top menu bar. Choose Preferences from the drop down menu and click the Advanced icon in the new window that appears. Now, please click ‘Revert to Default’ and enter your admin user password. Then, please close this window and test again.”
