• All,

Hope someone can help with this.

Plain-jane WP installed, absolutely NO plugins are installed, and the three there are (Akismet, Jetpack by WordPress.com, WordPress.com Stats) are not active.

I am getting the following error when trying to add new users to the site as Author:

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /homepages/15/d218977245/htdocs/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 669

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/15/d218977245/htdocs/wp-includes/capabilities.php:669) in /homepages/15/d218977245/htdocs/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1173

I’m sure the 2nd error is because of the first.

Theme that is being used is Twenty Thirteen, latest updated version.

    WP is 4.0.0

I am waiting for the site owner to find out what version of PHP and MySQL is being used.

    In the meantime, any ideas?!?!?!

Well, first of all, remove WordPress.com Stats, that was superseded by Jetpack years ago. WordPress.com Stats is very out of date and probably not safe to use.

As for the quoted issue, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
