webfinger endpoint setup

My webfinger endpoint currently works thanks to my hosting provider (@servebolt) making some temporary changes in how their automatic SSL configuration works (which if I understand correctly limits what configuration can be added to .htaccess, due to which I was not able to make this work myself).

They would obviously like to revert to a (new) default configuration and they would be able to do so if .well-known/webfinger?resource= (so no / between webfinger and the querystring) would work.

Can you confirm if:
(a) this would work already?
(b) if this would require a change in the plugin and if so if that would be something that can be considered?
