webfinger redirect not working

So i found out that webfinger redirects had stopped working.

I now manually created a .well-known/webfinger file with the content of “/?rest_route=/activitypub/1.0/webfinger&resource=acct:user@blog”. I read that somewhere, don’t really know what i am doing.

webfinger seems to now be reachable and i could add my blog again to a mastodon app (which i was unable to before, because the nodeinfo redirect did not work either).

I am sure this is not optimal, but i have no idea why the redirects did not work, they used to work. Any idea how i can make them work again? Or does it not matter?

I have set permalinks to “day and name”.

It is the most basic hetzner webhosting option. I have definitely had it working before with it, there were no notifications of any changes to my account.

Edit: The package I have is no longer available, it was called “level 1 webhosting”. Maybe something changed when they overhauled their webhosting offers. This is what I should have (level 1): https://docs.hetzner.com/de/konsoleh/general/webhosting/old-webhosting-packages/

Site health now says:

The WebFinger endpoint is working but returns an incorrect content type header.

Current:

Expected: application/jrd+json

It only does say this when i have the webfinger plugin activated, when i deactivate it, there is no complaint. I have only installed it yesterday with the hope it might fix my problem.

But that issue is because of the static file you created. What Webserver do you use? Apache or NGINX?

Can you delete/rename the file again? It is hard to debug everything when every request goes to the file.

everything works perfectly fine! I simply have made some glitches for the WebFinger plugin it seems!

You do not have to change anything, but you can maybe update the WebFinger plugin 🙂

That’s weird, because I had only installed the webfinger plugin in an attempt to fix the not working redirect, I did not use it before. But seems to work now with the updated webfinger plugin, thank you.
