In image settings, I’ve checked Create WebP version of image. Your help for Create WEbP version of image says “Creates WebP image format and serves it whenever possible.”

I use Elementor Pro and see that optimizing JPEGs as WebP does not work for their thumbs (and a few other items) which still are served as jpegs so I tried uploading WebP files for original images which works ok with Elementor thumbs. But now if I run your image compression on the uploaded WebP files, I get errors. I’m assuming this is because the images are already WebP format?

… 3 selected image(s) could not be compressed. Please see the logs for more information, you may try again later. Log says:

Task with ID 626 and type (smush) failed with error code invalid_file_type – …./.webp – cannot be optimized, it has an invalid file type

I was hoping that when I select a jpg file, it would serve my WebP image, but it doesn’t. I guess I can just use WebP images but hate to not have a jpeg fallback.

I do use Cloudflare free version if that is an issue.

    Any solution?

  • @naturalenquirer Thanks for reporting the issue, I’ll share the same with our development team the error you reported about invalid file type for WebP images

Task with ID 626 and type (smush) failed with error code invalid_file_type – …./.webp – cannot be optimized, it has an invalid file type

We’ll hopefully get it fixed in next release.
