    Hello,

I have run the mass optimisation several times (checking to re-run and only convert to WebP, but still some images are only partly converted – example here the image csm_P1000244_01_d27c8bc944.jpg in the URL https://porzgmbh.de/gaerten/

This one – along with other pictures – are delivered as jpg.

Looking at the file system, I see, that only some variants of this picture are converted:

    Any idea, why this happens?

On the URL mentioned, only 4 out of 12 pictures are delivered as WebP.

    Thanks for your support!

I ran that image through on my dev site, and I get similar results. Which is to say, the savings are very minimal, and so the reason you’re not getting 100% WebP coverage is likely because the WebP format is a poor choice for many of your images. While many rave about the WebP format, and it IS quite good, it is not always the smallest file format–usually, but not always. In your case, I suspect it is partly the small resolution, but mostly it looks like your images are already highly compressed. I can see a lot of distortion in the original 800×600 image, and add to that a high amount of detail and varying textures, and WebP just can’t do much more with the image.

OK, that’s understandable. I’ll ask the customer if he has better images that can be used. Thanks for your support!

Oh I don’t know that the quality is to the point they need to be redone. It’s just low enough that WebP isn’t going to compress it further, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I certainly wouldn’t re-upload the images just to get WebP versions of them.
