• Hi,

My website has seemed to have crashed after I tried to update/create a “child” update to the CSS style code.

I access my WordPress site through my domain and hosting company’s cPanel dashboard.

How do I fix this problem???

    Thanks, Andrew

Are you talking about the code posted here?

Are you using the Photo Perfect theme?

Yes that’s the code I tried to use. No I am using the Rise Pro theme by Modern Themes.

How can I get my WordPress running again???

    Thanks, Andrew

If that means you can log on to your admin back end then you should be able to deactivate your child theme and use the default parent theme.

Not sure how to do that???

Log in to your WordPress site admin area. Select Appearance > Themes, hover over the theme you want to activate and click the Activate button.

This code error has stopped me from even getting into that admin/dashboard area :/

That’s my main problem at the moment!

Access your server via SFTP or FTP or the file manager in your hosting account’s control panel. Locate the /wp-content/ folder and delete your child theme folder (or move it somewhere else). That will disable the theme and your site should then use a default WP theme and allow you to access your admin logon.

Hi, thanks for those instructions. I had to delete the whole folder /wp-content/ folder and re-create it. Now I’m trying to install a new theme but it’s failing to locate the FTP sever. How can I link that new /wp-content/ to my wordpresss account??

I appreciate your help so far!!

How did you recreate it? What are the current contents of the folder? Even if the Themes subfolder is empty you should be able to log on to your dashboard and select Appearance > Themes and click the Add New button at the top to go to the theme repository.

The file manager in my hosting control panel wasn’t allowing me to open the /wp-content/ folder and delete individual files. But there was options to create new folders which I did and re-named after I removed the original folder….

    1. What are the contents of the existing /wp-content/ folder?

    2. Do you have access to your admin dashboard?

The /wp-content/ folder im assuming is empty because I just created it.

And yes I do have access to my admin dashboard but only through mobile on this stage (not sure why it’s not working on my of).

I tried setting the default theme but it said it wouldn’t allow as it could locate the necessary FTP folder.

    At this stage**

    Not working on my pc**

You won’t be able to install the theme without the themes subfolder. The /wp-content folder should have at least these four subfolders:
    /plugins
    /themes
    /upgrade
    /uploads

Thanks for all your help! I ended up just removing and installing WordPress again.
