start by checking into the following issues:
*Webhosting plan – is it still active (is your webhosting vendor one.com?)
*PHP version update needed? (contact webhosting vendor)
*do you have access to a backup copy of the database and files that could be restored?
*what was the most recent change done to software: WordPress version, plugins, theme
Thank you Lisa.
None of this really means much to me but I’ve forwarded your response to my nephew
to whom it will probably all make sense!
” HTTP ERROR 500″
Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.
Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/
You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.
If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-the-administrative-menus
Thank you Steve. Have forwarded to my nephew…. He deals with the server/web-hosting etc.
Can’t access wp-admin I’m afraid. Again, just a blank page!
I’m beginning to fear the worst i.e hundreds of hours of work down the drain.
No. Please read the links. Enable debugging. That does not required logging in at wp-admin.
Steve, thank you for your optimism!!
