    Hello,

    I have created a website – not a BLOG!

Currently my pages are created in English and German language using the same menu. Some pages are only in English or German, others are mixed.
I do not think that my clients will have a problem with that, but I would like to add a more professional touch to my site and add two icons with the English and German flag to my homepage for letting them choose which version to see.

I have checked other posts on this subject, but cannot not find a solution to my problem:

What I would like to do is create the same pages with the same menu in either English or German language (the user just has to pinch the corresponding language icon on the home page)but not using a plugin that just translates English to German or viceversa. All those translation tools do not work – believe me! Google Translate and others are just tools to help you but if you do not comand the language your are ending up with jibberish. I have seen many sites and after reading the original language version and when switching to another language you see the difference. Once again: I want to use my own wording on either the English or German version.

I thank you in advance for any help on this matter and look forward to hearing from you.
Jörg Kellner (P.S. I am German: appologies in advance for any mistreatment of the English language.)

Member. I am not WP support

I do not think you will get a perfect ready to go solution.

I have Multisite with 3 langs,
Content for each language is has its own dedicated site.
Why, I think its is less confusing for vistors.
I do not mix languages on a pages or posts.
I do not use translation sites bing or google as auto translate is not good enough “yet”.

You could use Theme MENU adding links for(to) the relevant home pages. (yes it will be text only – later you can use css for the image flags, but I recommend you do the CSS edits in a child theme, not the parent)

Take a look at these plugins
1, “Flag icons” (basic and simple to set up)

    Outside what you asked for.
2 “multiligual-press” I believe it makes translation admin easier to track. (i think it was created by a team based in Germany.)

    Hi Kellner,

I have created 2 multiple language sites:
    – 1 with WPML plugin, for a real estate site in 5 languages
    – 1 with QTranslate: a small arts site with 3 languages, simple content and setup

I am trying to find out myself if I need a Multisite setup for my next website: cityguides in Belgium.

When I looking for info about Multisite, it seems to me that in your case you’d better use one of these plugins instead of a multisite..

    All teh best,
    Leen

    Thanks pix365 and ballyhoo!
Sorry for not replying earlier to your posts and advice, which is highly appreciated.

All of the plugins and wp-templates I have checked are “rubbish” when trying to set up a multiple language site. The tanslation tools do not work properly and some translations are just terrible.

So I guess the only way is to create two different menues for the same site in each language with a button (country flag) to switch from one language to another. Any idea which wp-template would work and how to create this setup?

    Best regards
    Jörg Kellner

100% agree humans are far better at translating,

I think the Polylang plugin will do the job your looking for.

    Terry
